Google is due to launch its Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL handsets later this year and we’re now started to see leaks concerning these handsets frequently. A couple of images of a purported Pixel 3 XL prototype have now appeared online and they reveal that the design of the handset will get minor improvements compared to its predecessor. The one thing that jumps off the surface is the notched display which many already expect the Pixel 3 XL to feature.
Notch displays have become a trend this year as manufacturers look to maximize screen real estate by pushing the screen-to-body-ratio as much as they possibly can. This has resulted in notched displays that we already see on devices from a variety of manufacturers.
A recent report had suggested that the Pixel 3 XL might feature two front facing cameras and we can see two cameras inside the notch. It’s unclear, though, what the second sensor will be used for. Despite the subtle design changes, the prototype looks unmistakably like a Pixel handset.
It merits mentioning here, though, that it’s possible that this is an early prototype of the next Google flagship and the company isn’t due to launch it until October this year at least. There’s a lot of time for the company to make changes in subsequent prototypes so while these images give us an idea of what to expect, we should be open to some changes in the final product.
