Oppo Reportedly Sourcing ‘Edge’ Display Panels From Samsung

Samsung has a near monopoly in the smartphone OLED panel market and happens to be the biggest supplier of OLED panels for mobile devices. Samsung’s own smartphones have helped popularize these panels and it already supplies them to other manufacturers as well. According to a new report, China-based Oppo is now sourcing Samsung’s curved ‘Edge’ OLED panels for its smartphones as well.

Samsung already counts some big smartphone manufacturers as its customers. There’s also the fact that it’s the sole supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone X which is the first iPhone Apple has ever made to feature an OLED display.

The report from South Korea claims that Oppo is going to source 6.42 inch flexible OLED panels from Samsung for a new smartphone that it’s aiming to launch in the next few months. Samsung is expected to start delivering the panels to Oppo by the end of this month.

This means that an Oppo smartphone with curved display sides is on the horizon. That won’t be surprising as well given that manufacturers are increasingly adopting the “bezel-less” trend and an Edge panel from Samsung makes it feel like the display effortlessly flows off the sides.

No further details are available at this point in time about Oppo’s upcoming smartphone with an “Edge” display.
