NVIDIA released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the SHILED TV last month but it had to halt the release merely a few days after the initial rollout due to “a couple of issues.” Its announcement didn’t mention any details about the issues but those who hadn’t updated their units were then forced to wait for longer in order to get a taste of Oreo on their SHIELD TV. Their wait ends today as NVIDIA has finally resumed the rollout of Oreo for the set-top box.
The Oreo update for the Shield TV brings a new user interface for the set-top box which adds a revamped main screen and additional customization options. New shortcuts have been added to the system as well through this update.
Despite the many improvements in the update, there were bugs which forced NVIDIA to halt the release a few days after it started rolling out the firmware. NVIDIA has followed up SHIELD TV Experience Upgrade 7.0 with SHIELD TV Experience Upgrade 7.0.1 and while it hasn’t officially confirmed the rollout, countless users on social media and the company’s official forums have confirmed receiving the latest firmware release on their devices.
NVIDIA appears to be rolling out the new firmware update for the SHIELD TV in stages so it may take some time for this update to make its way to users across the globe.
