Nokia 7 Plus Users On Android P Get Downgraded To Oreo For No Reason

There are only a handful of devices that are compatible with the public Android P beta that Google launched after I/O 2018 and the Nokia 7 Plus is one of them. Those who own the device and are running the beta were taken by surprise when an over-the-air update downgraded them from Android P to Android Oreo for no apparent reason.

Users who opt for beta firmware on the devices know that they are going to run into bugs and they’re mentally prepared for them. However, being downgraded to a completely different version of the operating system is bound to have caught them by surprise.

Many Nokia 7 Plus users who were running the Android P beta have reported that they were downgraded to Android Oreo from Android P after they downloaded and installed a new software update for the device that actually claimed to be the June security patch.

The update package itself weighed in at 1.3GB which is a little excessive for a mere security maintenance update. Many didn’t pay attention to it and it’s only after they were downgraded to Oreo did they realize what had happened.

The downgrade has resulted in many problems for them such as device and app crashes. They’re unable to use the rollback package on the Android P install page because the package happens to be older than the current build. They can’t even re-flash the original Android P image so they will have to do a factory reset to go back to Android 8.1 and then wait on HMD Global to release a proper fix which the company hasn’t said anything about so far.
