Lenovo Z5 Doesn’t Quite Live Up To The Hype

Lenovo has been hyping up a device for the past couple of years which the teasers suggested would be an “all-screen” smartphone with a screen-to-body-ratio of over 95 percent. That would have meant that the device would be bezel-less in the true sense of the word without having a notch. The handset was also believed to feature up to 4TB of internal storage. Lenovo has officially launched the Z5 today and it doesn’t quite live up to the hype.

For starters, the phone has a notch. The Lenovo Z5 has a 6.2 inch 19:9 aspect ratio 1080p display with a notch up top. Lenovo does say that the bezels on this device are slimmer compared to the iPhone X and Xiaomi Mi 8 and that the notch is narrower as well. Lenovo is now claiming a screen-to-body-ratio of 90 percent.

It doesn’t even have flagship-level internals as the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. It will be available in 6GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB RAM and storage configurations.

The handset has a 16 megapixel primary and 8 megapixel secondary dual camera system at the back with an 8 megapixel camera at the front. It also features a 3,300mAh battery, wireless charging, a fingerprint sensor, and a USB Type-C port. The devices runs Android 8.1 Oreo.

It’s not the handset that many were thinking it would be. They can find solace in the fact that it’s going to be cheap. Lenovo is going to sell the 64GB model for 1,299 yuan or $200 in China and the 128GB model for 1,799 yuan or $280.
