LCD iPhone Rumored To Be Delayed For 2 Months

Despite Apple reportedly planning to launch at least two iPhones with OLED screens this year, one iPhone that seems to continually generate interest is the rumored 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD display. It was expected to launch alongside the other two iPhones, but ironically enough it appears that it might have since been delayed.

A report from Korea (via Pocketnow) has suggested that the LCD iPhone could be delayed by an additional two months, meaning that if and when it is released, it could only be in November. We say that it’s ironic because last year the iPhone X was launched at a later date reportedly due to its OLED screen (amongst other things), so it’s interesting to hear that the LCD model could be delayed this year instead.

The report claims that this is due to the struggles of Japan Display and LG Display, both of whom are having a hard time achieving the yield that Apple requires. Apparently due to the curved corners of the display, it has resulted in light leakage issues which causes uneven lighting, and could also potentially affect the optical readings from the TrueDepth camera system.

A recent leak which showed off the alleged renders of the new iPhones have hinted that all three iPhones this year will look identical in terms of design, with the main differences being under the hood. In any case take it with a grain of salt, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and see if the rumors pan out.
