Cross-play wasn’t always encouraged by console makers and game publishers but things have been changing in the gaming industry over the past few years. More and more titles are now supporting cross-play between Microsoft’s and Nintendo’s gaming platforms as well as the PC. Sony owns one of the biggest gaming platforms and yet it’s still not embracing cross-play on the PlayStation 4. In what is likely going to be akin to rubbing salt in the wound, a new Minecraft trailer has been released today which highlights cross-play between the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
Fortnite Battle Royale is unquestionably one of the biggest games of this year and it supports cross-platform play between the Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and iOS. Sony has decided not to allow Fortnite cross-play between the PlayStation 4 and any other platform.
Many Sony fans would obviously prefer if the company gave up on this and started allowing cross-play with other consoles but Sony appears to be in no mood to change its stance. The new trailer for Minecraft goes to show that it’s basically more fun for players when they’re not forced into a walled garden.
The trailer finishes off with a tagline which reads “Better Together,” and many will certainly agree with that. It remains to be seen if Sony will ever feel the same way.
