Mobile carriers in some major markets like the United States are heavily investing in their 5G networks in order to launch commercial 5G services by next year. We’ll also start seeing 5G smartphones in 2019 as chip manufacturers are due to start supplying their compatible products as well. Huawei has said that it’s going to launch its commercial 5G solutions and mobile chips in March next year.
Speaking at the 2018 Mobile World Congress Shanghai, Huawei CEO Eric Xu said that the company will fully embrace the 5G era next year as it plans to launch its commercial 5G solutions and its 5G chips for smartphones in March 2019.
The company will be aided in its goal by the announcement of 3GPP Release 16 which will address issues related to low-latency on the 5G standard. Once that’s done, it will accelerate the development of 5G networks and services.
Xu added that following the release of its 5G mobile solutions, the company will be able to launch its first 5G-enabled smartphone by June 2019. It certainly won’t be the only company with a 5G smartphone on the market next year.
Huawei is now planning to launch commercial 5G solutions for non-standalone networks in September 2019 while its solutions for standalone 5G networks will follow in March 2019.
