Despite reports that the sales of the Galaxy S9 have not been up to Samsung’s expectations, it appears that the handset has been performing relatively well in the market compared to its rivals. Market research firm Counterpoint has released new data which suggests that the Galaxy S9+ was the best-selling smartphone in April 2018, overtaking the iPhone X in the process.
Data from Counterpoint’s Market Pulse reveals that the Galaxy S9 series became the best-selling series globally and subsequently pushed the iPhone X to the third spot. The improvement in ranking is attributed to performance in the APAC and NAM regions.
The data shows that the Galaxy S9+ and the Galaxy S9+ accounted for 2.6 percent of the global smartphone model sales market share each in April 2018. The iPhone X came in third place with 2.3 percent while the iPhone 8 Plus was in fourth with the iPhone 8 Plus.
This is also the first time that Xiaomi smartphones clinched two positions within the top ten model list. Xiaomi saw improved performance in China and India due to its affordable smartphones.
It remains to be seen how the list will shape up in the months to come particularly after Samsung releases its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 9. It’s expected to arrive in the second half of this year.
