Many of us have fond memories of playing Command & Conquer as it used to be one of the most popular real-time strategy games over the past few decades. However, it has been a long time since a new title in the series was released so many players have obviously given up on the series by now. While many would still be hoping that a new full-fledged Command & Conquer title will eventually be released, EA has actually announced a new iteration of the series for mobile devices called Command & Conquer: Rivals.
EA took everyone by surprise when it unveiled Command & Conquer: Rivals for smartphones at its Play conference at E3 2018. The title takes inspiration from similar mobile games such as Clash Royale but players will be able to control their units after deployment.
Players in this game have a singular objective to destroy their opponent’s base using different military units at their disposal. EA has released a cinematic trailer for the title today and will reveal more about the game in the days to come.
However, the initial response to the trailer on YouTube appears to suggest that the franchise faithful have not been impressed with EA’s decision to leverage the brand for a mobile game. Command & Conquer: Rivals is going to be released as a free-to-play game for Android and iOS devices later this year.
