In the latest update to its Chrome browser for Android, Google has introduced a new feature that will automatically download articles for offline viewing. Now Google has in the past introduced offline features for Chrome, but this takes it to the next level with automated downloads.
How it works is that when it detects that your phone is connected to an unmetered WiFi network, it will begin to automatically download articles that it thinks is popular in your area, and also that is relevant to you. According to Amanda Boss, Product Manager, Offline Chrome for Android, “When you’re connected to free, unmetered Wi-Fi, Chrome will automatically download relevant articles, based on what content is most popular in your location.”
This is part of Google’s Next Billion Users initiative and the update for Chrome has already started to roll out in countries such as India, Brazil, Indonesia, and more.
