It has only been a few days since the Westworld Mobile game was released for smartphones and those who have taken the title for a spin have remarked that it feels quite similar to Fallout Shelter. If you’ve played both games then you will be aware that they are quite similar to each other which is why Bethesda has filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. and Behavior Interactive, the developers that were contracted to make Fallout Shelter.
Warner Bros. contracted Behavior Interactive for Westworld Mobile as well and Bethesda claims in its lawsuit that some of the IP used in the new game is the same that was used for Fallout Shelter.
The Westworld game even has a telling bug which Bethesda mentions in its lawsuit. “The identical problem appeared in initial versions of FALLOUT SHELTER but was addressed before FALLOUT SHELTER was released to the public,” its filing says.
Bethesda believes that this an indication that both games were developed using the same source code aside from additional similarities which include interface actions and geometry features. Bethesda claims that Behavior was exclusively contracted for the work that it did on Fallout Shelter and it owns all of the IP related to the game.
Bethesda has filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Maryland and it wants the Westworld title to be prevented from distribution. It’s also making monetary claims.
