Apple Still Has No Plans For A Touchscreen Mac

Over the years as Apple started introducing more features that would sync across both iOS and macOS devices, naturally questions have arisen as to whether or not we could see some kind of hybrid device in the future, such as a Mac computer that supports touchscreen. Apple has denied those rumors for years, and it seems that their stance hasn’t changed.

In an interview with WIRED, Apple’s SVP of software engineering Craig Federighi has revealed that Apple still does not have plans for a touchscreen Mac. He was quoted as saying, “We really feel that the ergonomics of using a Mac are that your hands are rested on a surface, and that lifting your arm up to poke a screen is a pretty fatiguing thing to do. I don’t think we’ve looked at any of the other guys to date and said, how fast can we get there?”

He also feels that the current offerings are particularly compelling, calling them “experiments”. According to Federighi, “I don’t think we’ve looked at any of the other guys to date and said, how fast can we get there?” Instead what Apple seems to be doing is trying to get iOS apps to run on Mac but instead of relying on touch, they are looking to create a framework that will translate current touch commands into input commands on the keyboard or mouse.
