Apple Maps Can Now Be Embedded Into Websites

Sometimes companies and restaurants and venues will embed a map onto their website to let customers know where they are and how to get there. For the most part the maps that we would see on websites are Google Maps, with the occasional Bing Maps thrown in, but now it looks like we might start seeing Apple Maps as well.

This is because at WWDC 2018, the MapKit team has announced that they will be officially launching MapKit as a web framework. For those who aren’t familiar with that kind of terminology, it basically means that Apple is now letting web developers to embed Apple Maps into websites.

This means that if for whatever reason you prefer to use Apple Maps over Google Maps or Bing Maps, you will now have that option of using it on your website. The MapKit JS library will be launching this week in beta and should eventually be available to all. During the beta period, Apple will allow usage limits of 250,000 instantiations per day and 25,000 service calls per API key per day.

Now we’re not sure what could convince web developers to make the switch from Google Maps to Apple Maps, but we suppose it’s an option for those who wish to take advantage of it.
