Alleged Render Of Xbox Controller Designed For Accessibility Revealed

The majority of video game controllers were designed for use by gamers who have no accessibility problems. However given that gamers come in all shapes and sizes, it is clearly not a one-size-fits-all solution, but the good news for Xbox One gamers is that it looks like Microsoft could have something in the works.

In a tweet by leakster WalkingCat, a render of what appears to be an upcoming Xbox One controller has been leaked. The design does look a bit strange, but that’s because the controller is said to have been designed with accessibility in mind. This is pretty obvious from the huge buttons which are presumably designed so that they can be easily pressed by users who might lack the dexterity needed to manipulate smaller buttons.

There also appears to be a row of grooved icons at the top of the controller who could help users navigate their console. This will reduce the need for gamers to fumble through various menu layers that might be troublesome to navigate if the gamer has accessibility problems. The folks at Windows Central have also noted a three-light LED indicator which suggests that there could be programming layers, indicating that the controller could be customized according to the gamer’s needs.

No mention of when the controller would be launched, but E3 2018 does seem like a likely venue and time, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled all the same.
