It was expected that Tesla would soon be confirming the details and pricing for the dual motor all-wheel drive and performance variants of the Model 3 in the near future and that’s precisely what CEO Elon Musk has done over Twitter. The company is now almost ready to start shipping Model 3 cars with the dual motor option which is why Musk has now confirmed the pricing and specs for this particular variant.
The top-of-the-line model will be the Performance version of the Model 3. It’s going to cost $78,000 and will feature a special dual motor setup paired with 20 inch wheels, black and white interior as well as a carbon fiber spoiler.
Musk tweeted that it costs about the same as a BMW M3 but that it’s going to be 15 percent faster as it will hit 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds with better handling. He even claimed that the Model 3 Performance trim will “beat anything in its class on track.”
Those who don’t want the Performance trim can opt for the normal dual motor all-wheel drive option for the Model 3 which costs $5,000 over and above the cost of the car. It also provides a range of 310 miles and reaches 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds. The dual motor setup puts one motor each at the front and back. One is optimized for power while the other is for range and the car is capable of driving normally even if one motor breaks down.
