This is something that Sony seems to be interested in, according to a post on the Sony Mobile blog in which Sony talks a bit about the cameras on the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra which was first unveiled earlier this year during CES 2018 where one of its key features was its dual selfie cameras on the front.
In the post on Sony’s blog, they did an interview-like Q&A with Kensuke Mashita, who is a 15 year Sony veteran and Senior Manager of Sony’s Camera Technology Marketing. When asked as to what the company could be working on next in terms of camera technology, Mashita was quoted as saying, “I can’t say too much, but selfie enabled AI may be on it’s way. We’re developing the next generation camera experience – it’s exciting stuff.”
Like we said Sony is not the first to use AI to help improve the cameras on our smartphones, but exactly what will Sony’s AI be able to achieve remains to be seen which we guess we’ll find out in future models released by the company.
