The OnePlus 6 Has Been Officially Announced

If you’ve been eagerly anticipating the OnePlus 6 which was supposed to be announced today, you’ll be pleased to learn that the handset has since been made official. The OnePlus 6 is essentially the successor to the OnePlus 5T and as you can see in terms of design, the OnePlus 6 is following the trend of full screen smartphones.

The OnePlus 5T was almost a full screen smartphone save for the upper and bottom lips, and the OnePlus 6 improves on that. The bottom lip is still there but the display has managed to stretch to cover the top. As OnePlus had previously confirmed, the notch is there but this is more of a necessity than anything where it will house the speaker for the phone, various sensors, and a 16MP f/2.0 front-facing camera with EIS.

As for the rest of the specs, we’re looking at a phone that packs a 6.23-inch AMOLED display with a FHD+ resolution and the use of a 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and will be available in either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and accompanied by 64GB/128GB/256GB worth of storage.

We’re also looking at a dual rear-facing camera setup that combines a 16MP and 20MP camera with OIS and EIS with an aperture of f/1.7. It will also feature water resistance, NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 3,300mAh battery. It will run on Android 8.1 Oreo but will support the Android P beta for those who are interested.

As for pricing, the phone is priced starting at $529 for the base 6GB/64GB model, and will go up to $629 for the 8GB/256GB model and will be available come 22nd of May.
