From time to time we see companies like Apple, Google, and Microsoft make changes to their app stores to make it easier to use, better to navigate, all in favor of helping users discover new apps. Recently it looks like Microsoft has been making some changes, according to the folks at Windows Central who discovered them.
According to the report, it seems that these changes come in the form of a new “Departments” section in the Microsoft Store. This drop down menu will basically contain all the different products and/or service offered by Microsoft. For example users will be able to navigate software and apps for Windows 10, Office, extensions for the Edge browser, and so on.
It will also list sections for entertainment, like PC gaming, mixed reality (via the HoloLens headset), and so on. There will also be a section for the hardware that Microsoft sells, such as its Surface series of tablets and laptops, Xbox consoles, accessories, and more. That being said, these changes only seem to apply to those living in the US, and even then it seems that not all users can see it either, indicating that Microsoft might be testing it out and might not necessarily roll it out for real.
This means that if you’re not in the US you might not see these changes until possibly later, if at all, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
