In a report from Engadget, it revealed that LG had actually conducted a survey and held focus groups across the US, UK, Italy, and Korea where it involved over 1,000 people. They showed the participants different screen designs and when one of the designs showed the notch, surprisingly only 30% of the participants said no to it.
The rest were apparently OK with the notch or in some cases, actually liked it. According to Shintae Hong, LG’s Head of Product Planning, “Some people hated that design, [saying] it’s like a man’s bald head like mine. Some people said [it is] cool… It totally depends on their personal choices, preferences.”
To be fair the iPhone X wasn’t the first phone to feature a notch in its display. That honor actually goes to the Essential Phone PH-1, but we suppose Apple does have its fair share of critics. In any case we found in our review of the LG G7 ThinQ that the notch did not negatively impact our experience with the phone, and actually found it useful as it gave us more space to fit notifications and other information.
