Latest Essential Camera Update Brings Speed Improvements

Essential, the new smartphone company founded by Android co-founder Andy Rubin, launched its first smartphone last year. The Essential Phone hasn’t really taken off but that was to be expected from a nascent smartphone manufacturer. One problem that many users complained about was that the handset’s camera app was painfully slow. Essential has now released a new update for its camera app which it says brings speed improvements.

Essential has confirmed via Twitter that it has released an update for the Essential Camera app which will allow users to take “pictures faster across all modes,” and this includes the Burst mode.

The company did release some camera app updates over the past few months. They brought a portrait mode, reduced compression, added Auto-HDR, improved scene rendering, and even added spatial sound in 360.

This latest update is focused solely on speed though. It has a singular purpose of speeding up the operation in the camera app and that’s something that many users will certainly appreciate.

Initial reports suggest that the camera app update does indeed make noticeable speed improvements but it’s still not up to the mark of apps like Google Camera. One can hope that Essential will be able to address all of the speed-related concerns in subsequent updates.
