It was reported yesterday that there’s an unannounced “Usage Insights” feature in Instagram’s Android app which will enable users to keep track of the time that they spend on the social network. Instagram initially said that it had nothing to announce at this point in time but the Facebook-owned company’s CEO has now confirmed that Instagram is indeed developing this Usage Insights feature to give users a more in-depth look at their Instagram usage statistics.
The Usage Insights feature has been discovered in the code of Instagram’s Android app. It hasn’t been enabled as yet so it’s unclear when this feature will be rolled out for all users.
What the code doesn’t reveal is that whether this feature will let users know about the time they have spent on Instagram ever since they joined the social network or allow them to see the figures for a shorter timeframe such as a day, week, or month.
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom has now confirmed on Twitter that the company is indeed working on this Usage Insights feature, adding that the company is building tools that will “help the IG community know more about the time they spend on Instagram.” He said that any time that users spend on Instagram should be “positive and intentional.”
Whether or not this feature will include reminders like YouTube had added to nudge users to take a break if they have been using the app for too long is unclear right now.
