The report claims that Google News will be getting a brand new design that is expected to incorporate elements from the Newsstand app as well as videos from YouTube. It also claims that as a result, Google could end up killing off Newsstand in favor of this consolidated app which would no doubt streamline everything.
A publishing executive who was briefed on Google’s plans and who spoke to AdAge on condition of anonymity was quoted as saying, “It’s a consolidation of all the ways you can interact with news on Google. There are a lot of Google services where you find news, and what they’re trying to do is bring it all under one brand.”
On top of all of that, Google is also expected to leverage its Accelerated Mobile Pages tech, which means that users will be able to check out news and read them instantly. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but Google I/O 2018 will be taking place from the 8-10th of May, 2018 which means that we should be able to find out all the details next week.
