Fiat Chrysler Recalls 4.8 Million Cars Over Cruise Control Problems

If you’re taking a long drive on a highway, this is where cruise control really shines. For those unfamiliar with cruise control, it is basically a feature offered in some cars in which drivers can set a speed that they want the car to drive at and it will maintain that speed without any input from the driver.

This is not an autopilot feature but rather it lets drivers take their feet off the pedal so that they can have a bit of a rest. Unfortunately for Fiat Chrysler, it seems that they are having some trouble with the feature, so much so that they are now recalling 4.8 million or so vehicles because the cruise control feature can sometimes get stuck.

So far it seems that there have been no accidents, at least no major ones, but they do cite one report where a 2017 Dodge Journey could not turn cruise control off. The company claims that this can happen when the car is going uphill in cruise control mode, and if automatic acceleration occurs at the same time as a short-circuit in the car’s system, it could result in cruise control getting stuck.

The recalled vehicles include the Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Journey, Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler and Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks and Ram 3500/4500/5500 cab trucks.
