Essential Phone Will Receive Three Years Of Security Updates

Andy Rubin, the co-founder of Android, launched a smartphone company called Essential a couple of years ago. The company subsequently released its first device, the Essential Phone, and as many were now waiting for its successor to arrive, it was reported that Essential had actually canceled the device and was even considering selling itself off. This has obviously led to speculation about ongoing support for the company’s existing devices and Essential has set the record straight by confirming that it will support the Essential Phone for two years as far as major Android OS updates are concerned.

Essential recently tweeted about an update to its Android P developers preview in which it has fixed some bugs related to Bluetooth connectivity and Dark Mode.

This lead to questions from other followers about the support plan for the existing device. Essential was asked for how long it was going to support its first smartphone.

The company replied that the Essential Phone will continue to receive major Android updates for two years as well as security patches for the next three years. That’s what customers would have expected when they purchased this device since Android OEMs normally don’t support their flagship devices beyond this period of time.
