BBM Desktop Beta Announced For Android Users

Messenger apps used to exist heavily on computers back in the day where we had the likes of ICQ, IRC, AIM, Skype, and so on. While chat apps for desktops still exist, it seems that there is an increased focus from mobile apps to bring their apps onto desktop. We’ve seen this with WhatsApp, LINE, KakaoTalk, and so on.

Now it looks like BBM is next. According to a report from CrackBerry, it seems that BlackBerry will be launching the BBM Desktop beta for Android users, where basically they will be able to access BBM on their computers in addition to their mobile devices. This is incredibly convenient as it means that users won’t need to keep looking towards their phone to reply messages when they are working on their computers.

However like we said, this beta seems to be only applicable to Android users right now and even then it won’t be open to all. According to BlackBerry, “Selected Android users will see the BBM desktop icon in their Me tab.” BlackBerry had previously tested out BBM for the desktop and we guess progress and reception must have been good for them to continue.

No word on when it will arrive for iOS devices or when it will exit its beta, but hopefully with it currently in beta it means that we’re now one step closer to seeing its release in the near future.
