Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant is quickly finding its way into PCs. Not long after HP announced the first all-in-one PC to come with Alexa baked in out of the box, Acer today launched a new lineup of laptops which it says are the first to ship with Alexa. Acer’s new Spin 3 and Spin 5 laptops are now available for purchase through retailers and both feature Alexa at launch. The Nitro 5 Spin convertible will also come with Alexa which it’s released next month.
Alexa on PCs works the same way that it does on any other Alexa-enabled device. Users will be able to use their voice commands to ask Alexa about the weather, manage smart home devices, make entries in their calendar, create lists, play their music, and more.
All of Acer’s compatible products are enabled by Intel Smart Sound Technology which is an integrated audio digital signal processor that’s built to handle audio, voice, and speech interactions. The Acer Spin 5 in particular feature Acer Purified Voice with four digital microphones having support for far-field voice recognition. Other models have dual microphones and near-field voice recognition.
The company has also revealed that it’s going to rollout Alexa on select Aspire, Switch, and Swift notebooks in addition to select all-in-one PCs over the next few weeks. Those who already have a compatible model will receive the Alexa update through the Acer Care Center in a couple of days.
