The massive success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite have sparked interest in the battle royale genre so it won’t be surprising to see other game developers come out with similar titles. According to a new report Sweden-based Massive Entertainment, the developer working on the sequel to The Division, is also working on a battle royale title of its own.
Massive Entertainment already has quite a lot on its plate. It’s constantly updating the first The Division title while also working on its sequel. The developer is working on the upcoming Avatar game as well which is expected to be released by December next year.
GameReacter hears from an anonymous source inside the studio that Massive is also working on a battle royale title that’s going to be similar to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite. Ubisoft reportedly commissioned Massive to start looking into this genre back in January this year and the latter reported back confirming that it could develop such a title in a relatively short period of time.
A spokesperson for Ubisoft didn’t confirm or deny that such a game is being developed, only saying that “We don’t comment on rumours or speculation”. If this game really is in the pipeline we can expect to hear about it over the summer.
