This is probably one of the concerns that console players have when purchasing a console late in its lifecycle. The good news is that if you have yet to get your hands on Sony’s PS4, it seems that you’ll still have a few years left before the PS5 is announced. This is according to a report from Kotaku in which they have spoken to several of their sources who tell them that the PS5 will be launching in 2020 at the earliest.
This seems to dispel the recent rumors which suggests that a PS5 could be announced as early as 2018. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the 2018 date as previously an analyst did suggest that a 2018 launch could be possible. However another analyst suggested that 2019 would be a more likely date, but Kotaku’s sources claim that neither 2018 nor 2019 are likely dates.
However they were told that these dates weren’t necessarily set in stone. One of their sources said, “On a multi-year project, a lot can happen to shift schedules both forward and backward. At some point, Sony’s probably looked at every possible date. It’s all about what they think is the best sweet spot in terms of hardware.” In any case it seems that we probably shouldn’t expect the PS5 anytime soon, especially with the launch of the PS4 Pro, so gamers can rest assured that their consoles won’t be rendered obsolete anytime soon.
