In today’s console landscape, we’re looking at pretty much just three brands: Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. However it wasn’t always these three companies as back in the day, other companies such as SEGA was also part of the console landscape, along with the likes of Japanese company SNK.
While SNK might now be more familiar to games as being behind franchises such as King of Fighters and Metal Slug, it looks like the company plans on staging a console comeback of sorts as they have recently teased the Neo Geo Classic Edition. Unless you have been gaming back in the day, you might not be familiar with SNK’s Neo Geo console, which the company plans on reviving.
The Future is Now! #SNK #SNK40th #NEOGEO #ネオジオ pic.twitter.com/zxXK5QQ8D2

However SNK’s plans don’t really come as a surprise when you consider how much success Nintendo has seen with its relaunch of its classic consoles. In fact SEGA has also teased the MegaDrive Mini which is a revival of its Genesis platform. Specifics of the Neo Geo Classic Edition are unclear at this point in time, but presumably it will come preloaded with a bunch of SNK classic titles such as the ones we mentioned above.
No word on how much it will cost and whether or not it will find its way outside of Japan, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
