For those unfamiliar, the MegaDrive is also known as the Genesis, a name that we’re sure many gamers might be more acquainted with. The console was announced in Japan to celebrate the console’s 30th anniversary. Details about the console are a bit scarce but it is expected to go on sale later this year, but no word on whether or not it will find its way to the US or other markets around the world.

Note that this isn’t the first time SEGA has launched a similar product. Back in 2017 the company launched the SEGA Genesis Flashback which wasn’t particularly well-received, and a report from CNET has revealed that the same company behind the Genesis Flashback could also be behind the MegaDrive Mini, which hopefully they have learnt some lessons from.
In any case we expect more details will be shared later this year. In the meantime no word on whether we can expect more “Classic” consoles from Nintendo. There have been rumors about an N64 Classic but nothing has been confirmed yet.
