New BlackBerry Handsets May Get Wireless Charging

BlackBerry may not be making smartphones itself anymore but its hardware partners who have licensed its iconic brand keep putting new handsets on the market in a bid to capitalize on the brand value of the Canadian company. It appears that some of those upcoming devices could feature wireless charging which would be a first for BlackBerry smartphones. One of the company’s hardware partners is believed to have developed a wireless charger.

TCL is the global licensing partner for BlackBerry but the company has inked agreements with other manufacturers in a couple of markets which allows them to make BlackBerry-handsets as well. Optiemus is one such manufacturing partner for BlackBerry.

Well known Twitter leakster has posted a picture of what appears to be a wireless charger online. The charger itself appears to have been designed to replicate BlackBerry’s logo. The drawings make it evident that this is most likely going to be a wireless charger.

None of BlackBerry’s existing handsets have support for Wi-Fi charging so if this accessory really is in the pipeline then it would suggest that future BlackBerry handsets may feature wireless charging as well. A render of the BlackBerry KeyOne’s successor was leaked online today and it appears to be adopting more recent trends such as the dual rear camera as well.

Optiemus hasn’t confirmed anything about a wireless charger for BlackBerry smartphones just yet so we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.
