Redstone 4 is the codename of Microsoft’s next major Windows 10 update and the company was expected to launch this update in the near future. April 10th was reportedly the internal target release date but it had to delay the roll out due to a “blocking bug” that was discovered at the last minute. Microsoft has decided against fixing the bug in a repackaged final update and has released a new beta build instead.
The bug was causing reliability issues which is why Microsoft decided to delay its release. “In certain cases, these reliability issues could have led to a higher percentage of (BSOD) on PCs for example,” explains Microsoft’s Dona Sarker, adding that Microsoft decided against creating a Cumulative Update package for this issue and developed a new build with the fixes included instead.
What the company hasn’t revealed is the cause of this blocking bug and why it came to be discovered at the last moment. However, the new build that has been released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring does bring fixes for it and the company will make the build available to Slow Ring and Release Preview testers soon as well.
It’s unclear when this update will be publicly released, though. Many are looking forward to it as it brings some new features such as HDR support, Timeline, dictation, design changes, and more.
