In a report from CNET, the LG G7 ThinQ is reported to sport a physical button that when pressed, will launch Google Assistant. While there’s no way of knowing if this report is true, in a way it makes sense. This is because LG had previously launched ThinQ devices powered by Google Assistant, so with the LG G7 receiving the ThinQ branding, we’re not surprised that Google Assistant will be integrated into the handset somehow.
Unfortunately just like Samsung’s Bixby button, it seems that LG’s Google Assistant button cannot be remapped either. This means that users who want to use the button for something else, like launching another app, this will not be possible, at least not officially. Perhaps a custom ROM could change that but that’s what we are hearing for now.
LG has declined to comment on the report but we expect that with all the leaks and teasers we’ve been seeing, it probably won’t be too long until we get all the official details.
