The company has recently announced that its ThinQ-branded appliances will now play nicely with more than just one digital assistant and will now work with either Amazon’s Alexa or Google Assistant. However just because both assistants are supported doesn’t mean that it will all work seamlessly as functionality will vary depending on the assistant you have chosen.
However we guess the upside is that at the very least LG is giving customers some variety in terms of choosing which assistant they want to use depending on which they might be more comfortable with. For example for a home with Alexa setup in the majority, they can choose to use Alexa, but a household that uses Google Home and Google Assistant devices, then obviously Google Assistant might be preferred.
According to David VanderWaal, svp/marketing, LG Electronics USA, “With LG SmartThinQ appliances, we’ve made it simpler than ever to create a smart home experience that helps consumers better manage their busy lives. Whether they prefer to use our SmartThinQ mobile app or voice commands with either Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant, LG lets the consumer choose what’s right for them when it comes to controlling their smart home.”
