For those who are diligent enough, chances are you might have backed up copies of your photos and videos that you’ve uploaded to Instagram, but what about those who don’t? The good news is that Instagram has confirmed to TechCrunch that the company is looking to introduce a tool that will allow users to download their old photos, videos, and messages.
According to the spokesperson, “We are building a new data portability tool. You’ll soon be able to download a copy of what you’ve shared on Instagram, including your photos, videos and messages.” This will make it easier for users to bring their Instagram content with them or save it offline or to a different cloud service to upload to a different social network later if they choose.
No word on when the tool will be released, but as TechCrunch points out, there is an upcoming European GDPR privacy law that comes into effect on the 25th of May, so there’s a chance Instagram might roll out the tool then to comply with said law.
