Instagram’s ‘Data Download’ Tool is Now Live

A couple of weeks ago it was reported that Instagram was working on a feature that let users download their photos and videos and profile information. This is handy for those who are looking to backup their Instagram data should their accounts get hacked, the service eventually comes to an end, or if they simply want to get off social media completely.

The good news is that if you were looking forward to this tool, you might be interested to learn that TechCrunch has reported that the Data Download tool is now live and can be accessed via Instagram’s website here. Note that the tool is only available via web for now, but Instagram has confirmed to the publication that they are working on rolling it out to iOS and Android, but basically it should be accessible via desktop or mobile, depending on your personal preference.

According to Instagram, “We’ll email you a link to a file with your photos, comments, profile information and more. We can only work on one request from your account at a time, and it may take up to 48 hours to collect this data and send it to you.” Profile information will contain information like the usernames of your followers, people you follow, direct messages, and more. It will also work with archived Stories but only those posted after December 2017.
