However it should be noted that according to The Verge, they claim that this design is being tested internally and with “trusted partners”. The fact that it is being tested suggests that there is a chance it could change in the future ahead of its release, but at the same time it should give us an idea in which direction Google is headed.
As you can tell from the screenshot, it looks like Gmail will be getting the Material Design language that Google has been steadily applying across its products and services. While Gmail’s interface has always been somewhat clean, this update seems to make it even cleaner and neater.
There will also be an introduction of features like smart replies for the web that was previously introduced on mobile, and also a snooze feature that lets users temporarily remove emails from your inbox until a certain time. These are actually existing features part of the Inbox app by Google but are finally making their way to Gmail.
No word on when the new design will be rolled out, but with Google I/O 2018 taking place next month, we suppose that might be a good time to launch it.
