However interestingly enough the low-fi nature of vinyl is what makes it appealing to enthusiasts, where they claim that there is a certain tone and warmth to the sound of recordings that is lost in today’s pristine digital music. However for those who love vinyl but could like higher quality audio, you might be in luck as an Austrian startup is looking into producing high definition vinyl.
The idea of HD vinyl has been explored before in a patent filed a couple of years ago in Europe, and now the startup, Rebeat Innovation, has been giving a grant of $4.8 million to help further the initiative. With the creation of this HD vinyl, it will allow for higher audio fidelity, louder volume, and longer playing times compared to what’s being offered today. There is also an environmentally-friendly benefit to this as it would avoid the use of chemicals involved in the traditional vinyl manufacturing process.
Assuming all goes according to plan, they are hoping to get the first HD vinyls into stores by the summer of 2019.
