Whether or not the claims are true will be up to the US DoJ to decide in their investigation, but unfortunately in the meantime it seems that the complaints might have been some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy because in the wake of the investigation, the GSMA has announced that implementation of the eSIMs have been put on hold.
According to a statement issued by the group, implementation has been put “on hold pending the completion of an investigation by the United States Department of Justice.” The allegations by the other companies claim that AT&T and Verizon were purposely trying to delay the technology because apparently eSIM tech makes it easier for customers to switch carriers, and obviously having a low churn rate is what most carriers aim for.
However to be fair the carriers did announce that they have been working and cooperating with the US DoJ in their investigations. No word on when the investigations are expected to be concluded.
