Galaxy Note FE Gets Android 8.0 Oreo

The Galaxy Note 7 proved to be a disaster for the company even though the handset was very well received and it appeared that the Galaxy Note 7 would be a hit for Samsung. Unfortunately, those dreams went up in flames quite literally due to a battery defect that was causing units to catch fire. Samsung ultimately killed the device but later brought it back as the Galaxy Note FE or Fan Edition. That particular variant has now received its Android 8.0 Oreo update.

After dozens of reports of Galaxy Note 7 units burning up in flames, Samsung decided to halt production and recall all units that it had sold. An initial battery recall program failed to work as the issues were more severe than previously contemplated.

Samsung was sitting on thousands of unsold units so it decided to put them to use by launching the Galaxy Note FE several months later. The handset is more or less the same as the Galaxy Note 7 as they have the same design and internals with the battery being the obvious exception. It has a smaller 3,200mAh battery.

Those who picked up this device will now be delighted to know that Samsung is rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo firmware update for the Galaxy Note FE. The update is rolling out over-the-air and should go live for users in all markets in the not too distant future.
