Facebook is believed to be working on a smart speaker of its own that the company is due to release in the coming months. It was expected that the device would be out over the summer but if a new report is to be believed, Facebook has delayed the launch of its smart speaker until October this year.
Not long after the data misuse scandal related to Cambridge Analytica scandal hit Facebook, it was reported that the company had decided to delay the launch of its smart speaker as the conditions aren’t favorable.
According to a new report out of Taiwan, while mass production of the device will begin in June as originally scheduled, Facebook has cut order volumes by 20 percent from the original plan and delayed the actual product launch to October. The order volume reportedly remains unchanged for next year.
Some previous reports have even suggested that Facebook will actually be launching two smart speakers both with 15 inch touchscreen displays like the Amazon Echo Show. The devices are said to offer social networking features as well which won’t surprise anyone given that they will be from the world’s largest social network.
Facebook hasn’t confirmed or denied anything about its smart speaker plans as yet so take this information with a grain of salt for now.
