However in all fairness, Essential is a new company to the scene and the Essential Phone PH-1 was their first attempt, but the company has since promised that they will do better. Speaking to Business Insider, Essential’s head of industrial design Linda Jiang promised that they will definitely be improving on the camera for the second-gen handset.
According to Jiang, “In general, one thing that we got hit hard with was the quality of our camera, and we’re really looking forward to improving that with our next-gen, making sure that we’re listening to our customers and their pain points. We’re going to make it better for you. We can say, we heard you and we’re going to do it better on the second-gen for sure.”
Camera performance seems to be an issue that plagues first-gen handsets. Even the Razer Phone when first launched was criticized for its lackluster camera performance, although subsequent updates have improved on it. No word on when the second Essential Phone will be launched, but assuming they’re keeping to an annual release cycle, it will probably arrive later this year.
