According to Apple exec Eddy Cue, he also states that Apple Music currently has about 8 million who are using the service on a trial basis, which means more potential signups in the future. As it stands Apple offers a 3-month free trial for Apple Music subscribers, but that’s the only free tier that the company offers.
This is versus other music streaming services, namely Spotify, who offers users a free tier and a paid premium tier that offers more features and removes ads. There are some who believe that Apple Music might even have what it takes to catch up and possibly overtake Spotify in the coming months, but whether or not that will happen remains to be seen.
However given Amazon’s recent revelation of their own, it looks like there might be another strong competitor in the game that shouldn’t be ignored. As it stands Spotify is still in the lead with at least 70 million subscribers.
