Apple CEO Claims Users Don’t Want A Merged macOS With iOS

There have been many rumors in the past suggesting that Apple could be looking for a way to merge iOS and macOS together. There is some synergy between both operating systems and they can communicate with each other, but is a merged platform something that users want? Apparently not.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said, “We don’t believe in sort of watering down one for the other. Both [The Mac and iPad] are incredible. One of the reasons that both of them are incredible is because we pushed them to do what they do well. And if you begin to merge the two … you begin to make trade offs and compromises.”

He admits that while it might result in a more efficient company, he claims that it’s the user experience that matters and he believes that a merged operating system is not what users want. “You know it’s about giving people things that they can then use to help them change the world or express their passion or express their creativity. So this merger thing that some folks are fixated on, I don’t think that’s what users want.”

However it should be noted that Mark Gurman of Bloomberg had revealed last year Apple’s alleged plans of allowing developers to create apps that run on both iOS and Android. It sounds like it could be a merger, but in reality it could be a variation of how Android apps can now run on Chrome OS. Either way it doesn’t sound like a merged operating system will be announced anytime soon, but how do you guys feel about that?
