Remember last October where it was rumored that Amazon wanted to deliver your packages to the inside of your car? It sounded a bit ridiculous due to the myriad of security concerns over such a service, but as it turns out it is pretty damn real because Amazon has since announced that they will be expanding its Key program.
For those unfamiliar, Amazon Key is a new service offered by Amazon to Prime members where it allows the delivery person to deliver your packages to the inside of your home. With this new program, dubbed Amazon Key In-Car, it does the same thing except for your car. So how does this work? There will be a catch in that only certain brands of vehicles are eligible for this program, presumably due to the makes and models having certain features that allow remote access.
Amazon reassures customers that it will be a safe delivery as they use “multiple layers of verification” to ensure that the authorized driver is that the location when the request is made. While we suppose this is convenient, there is also the question of whether or not you want your packages to be in full display inside your car, which could prompt thieves to smash your windows and make off with it, but we suppose to each their own.
Amazon customers interested in taking part in this program can sign up on the Key In-Car website.
