Verizon users rejoice as the country’s largest mobile carrier has finally released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. The devices received the update elsewhere a couple of weeks back and now carriers in the United States are gradually starting to roll it out to devices on their networks.
Those who own the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ on Verizon should now keep their eyes peeled for firmware version G950USQU2CRB9 and G955USQU2CRB9 respectively. It’s rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for both devices over-the-air.
The update bumps up the core Android OS to version 8.0 Oreo and Samsung Experience to version 8.0. Samsung Experience is the name that the company has given to its user interface tweaks for Android devices.
The update file size is well over 1.5GB as this is a major Android update so this isn’t surprising at all. Users should certainly make sure that they have ample juice in the battery life and that they’re on a good Wi-Fi network before they decide to download and install this update.
All of the features that Google introduced with Android 8.0 Oreo are included in this update as well as the security patch for the month of February.
Now that Verizon has released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ it won’t be long before the other carriers do the same as well. The Galaxy S8 is thus finally getting the Android 8.0 Oreo update stateside.
