Sony Exec Predicts Full-Frame Nikon, Canon Mirrorless To Arrive In Next 12 Months

When it comes to full-frame mirrorless cameras, it’s safe to say that Sony’s pretty much got the market cornered with their A7 and A9 mirrorless cameras. However this isn’t to say that other companies are going to take this lying down as we have heard rumors that companies like Nikon and Canon have something in the works.

In fact in a recent interview with DPreview, Sony’s Senior General Manager of the Digital Imaging Business Group, Kenji Tanaka had an interesting prediction in which he seemed to suggest that in the next 12 months, Nikon could very well release their own full-frame mirrorless camera.

Tanaka was quoted as saying, “This is just my personal opinion, but I think that maybe by next year’s CP+ you’ll see full-frame mirrorless cameras from Canon and Nikon. I think [by then] they will be participating in this market.” We have been hearing rumors about Canon and Nikon’s full-frame mirrorless cameras for a while now.

Some have even suggested that they could have been revealed at CP+ earlier this year, which unfortunately did not pan out, but we guess there’s always next year. However whether or not these full-frame mirrorless cameras from Canon and Nikon will be good enough to displace Sony remains to be seen.
