Sea of Thieves was a much-awaited title and since it was launched on March 20th, millions of people from across the globe have played the game and contributed to its momentum. The game had more than a million players on launch day and the community continues to grow having recently crossed two million players. Sea of Thieves is already the best-selling Microsoft Studios first-party title on Windows 10 and it has also been confirmed that this game is the fastest-selling new Microsoft IP of this Xbox generation.
While it has been confirmed that the game has more than two million players, it hasn’t been revealed how many of those are actually Xbox Game Pass subscribers. They wouldn’t need to purchase the game separately because it was offered as part of Microsoft’s Netflix-style game subscription service on launch day.
Sea of Thieves has also seen considerable interest from the streaming community. More than 100,000 players have streamed Sea of Thieves since launch which has resulted in more than 10 million hours being watched since last week.
The developer has acknowledged that the rapid rise in popularity has led to some scale challenges and exposed some bugs but it has already addressed some of them and promises to look into others going forward. The development team is presently working hard to tackle any issues that impact players and that remains its first priority.
