Back in the day feature phones were built like tanks where dropping them several times weren’t an issue and we did not have to worry so much about cracked displays or crack chassis (think Nokia 3310). However these days high-end flagship phones are designed to look amazing, but it seems that companies might have forsaken durability for design.
This is what SquareTrade is trying to find out in their Samsung Galaxy S9 breakability test. In the video above, the company puts the Galaxy S9 through its paces where they drop it several times to see how long it lasts before it breaks. The good news is that when compared to older Samsung Galaxy devices and Apple’s new iPhone X, the Galaxy S9 managed to hold its own.
This isn’t to say that it is indestructible, but rather if you were to drop it know that it should be able to withstand a couple of hard knocks, but don’t expect it to be that way forever. There was also the bend-test where the Galaxy S9 managed to within 230 pounds of pressure while the larger Galaxy S9+ managed to take 210 pounds before cracking.
However given how expensive these phones are, maybe consider investing in a good solid case to help protect it. If you have a few minutes to spare, you can check out the video above to see the breakability test.
